AJ Styles Recalls TNA Star Abyss Almost Appearing In WWE Royal Rumble

In recent months, with his career coming to a close, a lot has been said about AJ Styles’ time in TNA. Among the many friends he made there was Christopher Joseph Park, better known by fans as Abyss, who now works in WWE as a producer. According to Styles on an episode of his new podcast “Phenomenally Retro,” Abyss almost made a prominent in-ring appearance for the company.

“There was a moment in time where we thought we were gonna have him in the Royal Rumble,” Styles said. “It didn’t go through. I hate that for him. I wish it had. It would’ve been just like, ‘Ah! Okay.’ A stamp on Abyss, the character, finally making it to WWE to wrestle. I would’ve loved that but I guess somebody didn’t agree.”

The WWE star did not specify who pulled the plug on the appearance, or which year it was discussed for. As of today, Abyss has not wrestled since 2019, when he joined WWE in a backstage role after wrapping up an in-ring career that began in 1996. Last year, Park confirmed that he was firmly retired, with no plans of getting back into the ring for another match.

Styles also praised Abyss as one of his favorite opponents, specifically recalling TNA Lockdown 2005, when the two of them wrestled a steel cage main event match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

“I really think that was a brilliant match based on what we had to work with,” Styles continued. “[Abyss] was probably one of the better big men, definitely, that I’ve ever wrestled. He is right up there in my top 5 of big men that can do it all, and was willing to do it, and could go, and had great moves, and a different character. He was so good, man.”

CM Punk ‘Can’t Pretend’ He’s A Better Wrestler Than This Late WWE Hall Of Famer

WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has never been known to mince words, but when he competed in a social media challenge that required him to stay silent, he didn’t fair too badly. That is, until one WWE Hall of Famer’s name was brought up.

During the challenge put forth to the champion by B/R Wrestling, and posted to the outlet’s X (formerly Twitter) account, Punk had to stay silent until he heard the name of a better wrestler than him. B/R Wrestling listed off Punk’s challenger for the gold at WrestleMania 42, Roman Reigns, to crickets. He also stayed quiet for rivals Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker, as well as Brock Lesnar, John Cena and WWE Hall of Famers The Rock, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels, though he looked as though he was about to speak up when he heard the “Heartbreak Kid’s” name. The final legend mentioned, however, caused Punk to react.

“I can’t pretend that I’m better than Eddie Guerrero,” Punk admitted.

Before Guerrero’s passing in November 2005, Punk actually had three matches with “Latino Heat.” All three were in IWA Mid-South in 2002. Their only singles bout took place that March. In their first match, Punk and Guerrero faced Rey Mysterio, and in their final, the pair battled in another triple threat involving Punk’s infamously now-former friend Colt Cabana.

Punk has previously spoken about how Guerrero “changed his life” and his approach to wrestling matches during those 2002 bouts. He said he realized he needed to up his game and show Guerrero respect, because “none of it was about him” back when he had limited experience.

Cody Rhodes Reflects On How His WWE Legacy Stacks Up Against His Father Dusty’s

When Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE in 2022, one of his primary goals was to win the company’s top championship – something his father, Dusty Rhodes, was never able to do. Over the last four years, Cody accomplished that and more. During a recent appearance on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” he was asked to share his thoughts on the fact that his accomplishments have surpassed his dad’s.

“Mr. Heyman told me that, and I thought, ‘He might be the one guy I believe it [from],” Rhodes said. “I mean, they’re still doing things of his today, and there’s a whole fandom that will never even know they were his brainchild, or something that he – like, this was a silly one, but for example, the cage lowering [little by little], that’s a Dusty thing. These production things are still in play. I appreciate you saying it. I think I have a lot more to do.”

Among Rhodes’ many WWE accomplishments over the last several years is his winning the King of the Ring tournament in 2025. Rhodes said it was a prize that he desperately wanted, and he celebrated the victory accordingly.

“I don’t ride on the WWE charters anymore coming back from Saudi, because after the King of the Ring was probably the most partying I’ve ever done on a flight,” Rhodes continued. “I got photos with people I don’t even know. I’m arm wrestling Santos [Escobar] in one photo. My shirt is unbuttoned to my naval.”

Rhodes’ only regret from that night, though, is the fact that he didn’t have the King of the Ring crown with him in the pictures that were taken.

Nikki & Brie Bella Reveal Length Of Current WWE Deal, Say They’ll Retire When It’s Up

You can look, but you can’t touch the legacy that is the Bella Twins (Nikki and Brie). Celebrating Women’s Month in style, the twins are ready to let their hair down and allow their twin magic work its magic by seizing the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, a title that escaped the Hall of Famers, roughly six months after their last tag team match together in 2018. Now in their Hall of Fame era, Nikki and Brie have announced that their new contracts will remain in effect until 2028, presumably until that year’s Royal Rumble. And while they’re cautiously optimistic that they’ll receive the same treatment leading up to their ceremonial send-off as John Cena and AJ Styles had recently, they aren’t holding their breaths.

“I don’t think you and I will ever get that, but I would love to have that,” Nikki mentioned on their show. “Because I do know that the contract that we signed, we signed a two-year deal starting Royal Rumble. And… I know just where I’m at, that’s it. That will be the end for me and for us.”

While it’s good to think far ahead, the dual leaders of the Bella Army are ready to enjoy the fruits of their labor now before hanging it up for good. Nikki added, “I want to have some of my best matches. I want to have a lot of fun. But I want to have an iconic moment where… I could look back and go, ‘Damn, that was a great two years.’ We did it. I don’t want to walk away with any what ifs.”

Their comeback journey was met with a royal roadblock in Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, when “The Queen” interfered in their title match this past Friday on “WWE SmackDown,” that saw the Bellas just a grip away from becoming the new tag team champions in their first challenge against The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax and Lash Legend). With revenge in sight, Nikki and Brie will get their chance to duke it out with Flair and Bliss on next week’s “SmackDown.”

UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall Resumes Training Following Eye Surgeries

UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall posted a training video to signal his upcoming return to the Octagon.

Aspinall sustained a severe eye injury during his first defense of the Heavyweight title, having been promoted from Interim Champion, against Ciryl Gane in October last year.

He announced he would be having multiple eye surgeries at the turn of the new year, with no clear timeline for his return. And an Interim Heavyweight Championship fight was booked between Alex Pereira and Gane at the Freedom 250 card at the White House.

Aspinall posted a video showing he had returned to training after the surgeries, indicating that he is on the steady road to returning, on Friday.

“Coming for it all,” Aspinall wrote on X. The video itself had an end caption: “It begins. Back to work.”

Aspinall only recently agreed to a multi-year deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Talent Agency, adding a bit more fuel to the fire after UFC President Dana White had launched Zuffa Boxing, going on to sign Conor Benn away from Matchroom Boxing. Now, White may have to negotiate with Hearn as it pertains to his UFC Heavyweight Champion.

White said immediately after the announcement of Aspinall’s Matchroom signing that he had no issue with Hearn, and reasoned that he had managed to negotiate with Ortiz before, so would have no issue getting things done.
