Backstage News On Whether Bron Breakker Will Be Cleared In Time For WWE WrestleMania

During Royal Rumble season, it seemed all but assured that Bron Breakker would find himself in a marquee match come WrestleMania 42. But the aftermath of Royal Rumble weekend changed all of that, when it was revealed Breakker would need surgery to recover from a serious hernia. Since then, there’s been very little word regarding Breakker’s status, leaving many to believe the chances of him working WrestleMania were unlikely.

But a new report suggests WWE is still hoping that Breakker could make his way back. Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that at least one WWE source expressed “optimism” regarding Breakker being cleared to compete before WrestleMania. No update was provided on how Breakker’s rehab was going, but it was suggested that WWE has their T’s crossed in the event he can wrestle, as the promotion has put together a plan for Breakker at WrestleMania.

Prior to his injury, many expected Breakker to be in contention for one of WWE’s two World Championships, or to be put in a program with Seth Rollins, who he forcefully removed from The Vision back in October. Rollins himself had been out recovering from an injury since that time, but returned at Elimination Chamber, attacking Breakker’s stablemate Logan Paul.

Rollins has yet to wrestle since his return, but has continued to appear on TV, using an endless amount of masked men to play mindgames with Paul, Austin Theory, and Paul Heyman. Despite that, a match has yet to be made between Rollins and either Paul or Theory for WrestleMania, leaving open the possibility that a Breakker-Rollins match could happen should Breaker get cleared in time.

Josh Alexander Possibly Injured During Recent AEW Collision Taping

It has not been unusual for the AEW roster to be a bit banged up coming out of a PPV, and that once again seemed to be the case following AEW Revolution, with stars like “Timeless” Toni Storm being pulled from last night’s “Dynamite” due to injury seemingly suffered at the event. Unfortunately, the bad luck with injuries didn’t stop there, as another AEW star emerged worse from where after the promotion taped “Collision” following “Dynamite.”

PWInsider reports that Don Callis Family member Josh Alexander appeared to hurt his knee during a match where he, Konosuke Takeshita, and El Clon challenged Mistico, Speedball Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight for the AEW World Trios Championships. The injury occurred during a spot where Alexander put his knees up to block Bailey’s Ultima Weapon, a Shooting Star Knee Press, and their knees collided in what was described as a “freak thing.”

Immediately after, Alexander was said to have rolled out of the ring to be checked by medical personnel, and F4WOnline has since reported that Alexander was helped to the back during the match and never returned. It has been confirmed that Alexander was looked over backstage, but no word has emerged regarding the severity of the situation, and whether Alexander will have to miss time.

Ironically, the “Collision” match was Alexander’s first in nearly a month, having last wrestled on the February 28 episode of “Collision;” it’s unclear whether Alexander’s time off was due to injury or simply lack of use. He is currently scheduled to take part in the upcoming Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling/Ring of Honor Global Wars event next week, though this injury scare is sure to leave his status up in the air.

Nick Aldis Announces Title Match For This Week’s WWE SmackDown

It may be WrestleMania season, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still plenty to do for WWE when it comes to “Raw” and “SmackDown” each week. And thanks to “SmackDown” General Manager Nick Aldis, this week’s episode from the blue brand is adding another championship match to a card that already has a lot going on.

Taking to X at 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, Aldis announced that Tama Tonga and Solo Sikoa of the MFT’s would be defending the WWE Tag Team Championships against Damian Priest and R-Truth. It will be the second Tag Team Championship match to take place on the show, as Nia Jax and Lash Legend are scheduled to defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against the Bella Twins.

A Priest/Truth vs. MFTs match would’ve seemed unlikely just a few weeks ago, as not only are the MFTs still engulfed in a long running feud with the Wyatt Sicks, but the team of Priest and Truth didn’t even exist yet. The unlikely duo has gelled quickly since their formation however, winning a Tag Team Turmoil match to become new number one contenders before defeating Los Garza a week later. A win would give Truth his third Tag Team Championship reign in WWE and Priest his fifth, while ending the MFTs reign at 55 days with no successful defenses.

In addition to the two tag team title matches, “SmackDown” will also feature potential WrestleMania opponents Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu colliding in one on one action. The show will also feature Randy Orton’s first appearance on “SmackDown” since he turned on Cody Rhodes one week ago, and recording artist Jelly Roll being called out by Kit Wilson after their confrontation last week.

Jade Cargill Names Charlotte Flair As Top Dream Opponent

Jade Cargill has already ticked off Rhea Ripley as a dream opponent, and now she has her sights firmly set on Charlotte Flair.

Speaking on Complex’s podcast, Cargill reflected on the fantasy matches fans envisioned when she signed with WWE in 2023, revealing she always expected Flair to be her defining WrestleMania opponent.

“Of course, she’s the top girl. She’s the number one girl in our company currently. You know, she’s placed at such a high position and I’m going to reach the top, the highest of heights within this company. I mean, in what five years now, I have a title. I’ve been a champion three times over. I never worked the indie scene. I’ve been blessed to create such splash and to be the type.”

She admitted that while Ripley was on her list, Flair was always the match she had in mind for the biggest stage.

“So, yes, she was one of my opponents. I mean, one of the dream matches I wanted to have amongst others like Charlotte Flair. And I thought that’s actually the opponent I thought I was going to face at Mania was the likes of Charlotte Flair. You know, we’ve been teasing it for so long. And I think that’s a money-making match. I mean, she’s a Queen of home, right? And I am as well. And I think we have such similar aesthetics sometimes that I think it’s more of a like who’s who? Like who’s really like that Queen or whatever you want to say. I didn’t really dream book Rhea as being the person I would have had my ‘Mania match with this year.”

Looking ahead, Cargill doubled down on wanting Flair, even suggesting SummerSlam as the ideal stage, while also acknowledging the potential return of Bianca Belair.

“Well, when I retain, we’re gonna, yeah, assuming that in the air. I think well I would love to go on to face Charlotte at SummerSlam, but if Bianca returns, I don’t know what ‘cause the way the big three kind of split up was, like it was like a missing piece.”

“So, I think it’s a storyline we need to embark on when everybody’s healthy and ready to go. I think everybody will want to see that story line. it’s so many avenues you can go with that storyline, right? But the person I would want to see at SummerSlam since I’m not seeing them at Mania will be Charlotte. It’s already there.”

Cargill also explained why Flair remains her top target.

“It’s about breaking her. She’s stoic. Like I’m stoic, but she’s very like, you know, so I think it’ll be a great match. And I know Charlotte’s a woman for pulling people up and making them better. And that’s the people I want to work with.”

Backstage Update On Jelly Roll’s WWE Future Ahead Of WrestleMania

Backstage Update On Jelly Roll’s WWE Future Ahead Of WrestleMania

Jelly Roll’s potential involvement at WrestleMania 42 continues to be a talking point, but one rumored pairing now appears to be off the table.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed speculation that Jelly Roll could team up with Royce Keys on the grand stage. After looking into the situation, Meltzer noted that he was informed the pairing is not currently planned. While there is still no official confirmation that Jelly Roll will step into the ring at WrestleMania, the direction of recent television suggests WWE is building toward something.

“I kind of wonder where they’re going with Jelly Roll,” Meltzer said. “It just feels to me they’re going to build to some gimmick match with Kit Wilson, maybe a tag with The Miz because The Miz has been involved in the storyline. They could do that. I had asked about the story because there was a story about Royce Keys, and I was told that it’s not Royce Keys, for whatever that’s worth. I wasn’t actually told that there is a match [for Jelly Roll], but when you look at it, it certainly seems like they’re building it.”

Jelly Roll made his return to WWE television on last week’s episode of SmackDown, where he found himself in a segment alongside The Miz and Kit Wilson. The appearance took a chaotic turn during Miz TV, as Jelly Roll accidentally struck The Miz after Wilson managed to dodge the incoming blow.

Despite his limited in ring experience, Jelly Roll has already shown a strong commitment to the business. The chart topping artist previously competed at SummerSlam 2025, teaming with Randy Orton in a losing effort against Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre. His preparation for that bout reportedly earned praise internally, even as he remained self critical about his performance.

The storyline is set to continue on SmackDown this week, with Kit Wilson calling out Jelly Roll, further fueling speculation about what role the music star could play at WrestleMania 42.
