AEW Dynamite Summer Blockbuster – 6/10/2026: 3 Things We Hated And 3 We Loved

When Chris Jericho came back to AEW in April, I figured I’d give him a shot. He had been gone for nearly a year at that point, so his booking was going to feel fresh no matter what, right? Well, he’s entering just his second feud since his return, and it already feels like a new Jericho Vortex. The New Jericho Vortex of Bald, if you will, and it already feels pointless and redundant.

I’m sure it’s because Jericho loves his catchphrases and attempting to get goofy things over, and now, he’s trying to overtake the sickos’ love of chanting “BALD!” at various heels. First, he feuded with Ricochet, which took fans through an oddly booked assortment of babyfaces for the Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing, and Jericho’s next bald foe is none other than Tommaso Ciampa.

The pair opened up “Dynamite” tonight, and though the segment lasted about 10 minutes, it felt like it dragged on forever. I guess I thought we’d start out with one of the matches advertised, and I assumed Orange Cassidy vs. Andrade, so I wasn’t prepared for an immediate promo segment, as that’s not usually AEW’s thing.

Ciampa brought out Jericho, who, of course, was nearly immediately silly and called Ciampa “Tommy,” which got the crowd chanting, and it just felt like it got the show off to a slow start. It wasn’t as cute or clever as Ciampa’s previous “List of 1,004 Reasons he Hates Jericho” bit. The segment ended in a pull-apart brawl, and by the end of it, I didn’t want to see Ciampa vs. Jericho any more than I already did. Which was already only a tiny bit, simply because I just really like Ciampa in AEW.

While I think Ricochet is fine after taking the overall loss to Jericho, I don’t want to see Ciampa lose to him. Right now, the “Psycho Killer” feels slightly lost, as there are too many guys in the main title picture, and I guess you can’t have a heel Ciampa feud with a heel Kevin Knight for the TNT Championship. For a company with so many titles, you’d think there would be obvious space to slot Ciampa in for a feud over one.

If Jericho’s whole new thing is just feuding with bald guys on the roster and making up catchphrases to sell t-shirts, I don’t know if I could have thought of anything more ridiculous for him upon his return. Jericho is back to not working for me, and this opening segment just fell really flat.

Swerve Strickland Punches Ticket To AEW Men’s Owen Hart Tournament Finals

The Summer Blockbuster edition of “AEW Dynamite” concluded with the second semi-final in the men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament between Swerve Strickland and Brody King. Strickland got the better of King back at AEW Revolution 2026 and King was hoping to get his win back in Cincinnati, Ohio, but in the end, Strickland was the man who had his hand raised, and will face Will Ospreay in the final of the tournament at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 28.

Things quickly spilled out to the floor in the early going as King hit a Cannonball off the ramp, but when King went to hit a Crossbody on a prone Strickland, Prince Nana intervened long enough to let Strickland gather his bearings and hit a Drop Toe Hold into a steel chair. Strickland would keep control of the match throughout the commercial break, even getting into the face of referee Aubrey Edwards when took advantage of the referee’s five count in the corner.

Coming out of the break and King got himself back into the match, connecting with a number of strikes in the corner. However, Strickland got himself out of trouble with a Back Superplex. Strickland even countered a Powerbomb into a Swerve Stomp but it wasn’t enough to keep King down, and when the action went to the outside again, King countered and finally hit the Powerbomb he was looking for, this time on the announce table. Strickland would kick out and the two men would exchange moves in an attempt to gain the upper hand.

Strickland eventually got the advantage when King went head-first into the exposed turnbuckle which busted him open. Strickland hit two House Calls but King wouldn’t go down, and King would fire up with a Death Valley Driver into the corner, a Cannonball, and a Piledriver but only got a near fall. King went for the Gonzo Bomb but Strickland escaped, and after a cheap shot from Nana on the outside, Strickland hit King with the Vertebreaker to get the win and advance to the tournament final.

Kenny Omega Accepts Forbidden Door Challenge From Former IWGP Heavyweight Champion

Kenny Omega and Zack Sabre Jr. will go one on one for the first time in eight years at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

The announcement was made during “AEW Dynamite” on Wednesday night with a video package voiced-over by Sabre Jr. addressing Omega.

Omega last appeared in the Stadium Stampede victory over the Demand, the Don Callis Family, and the Dogs alongside the Young Bucks, Jack Perry, the Hurt Syndicate, and Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing in May. He will be returning to action during “AEW Collision” this weekend against Bad Dude Tito.

For Sabre Jr., it will be a return to AEW for the first time since retaining the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship over Nigel McGuinness at Forbidden Door in August last year.

This will be third singles match between Omega and Sabre Jr., with them first crossing paths in 2013 with an Omega win in the UK. They faced one another five years later during the 2018 G1 Climax, with Omega picking up the win once more. With Forbidden Door emanating from San Jose, California, this will be the third continent they have wrestled one another on.

Maya World Advances In AEW Women’s Owen Hart Cup In Shocking Upset

Maya World scored a huge victory on Wednesday’s edition of “AEW Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster” when she defeated The Triangle of Madness’ Skye Blue to advance in the 2026 Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament to go on to face Women’s ROH Champion Athena in the semi-finals. After Sareee was deemed medically unable to compete, AEW President Tony Khan announced World would be her replacement.

World recently announced on social media that she lost her brother in a tragic accident, but Khan revealed she was backstage at “Dynamite,” wanting to be around those in the locker room, and would be competing.

The women went back-and-forth to start off the match, but it was Blue to take control and dominate a good portion of the first half. World tried to battle back with slaps and escaped a firemen’s carry, but Blue stayed on the offensive.

Blue hit a neck breaker on the ramp, with World hanging from the ropes. World rallied and attempted to go up top, but Blue hit her with a thrust kick and slammed her to the mat. World blocked Blue’s running knee and hit a bridging suplex, but Blue kicked out. World hit her own running knee strike, but Blue kicked out again, and finally landed one of her own.

The Triangle of Madness member got World up on her shoulders and hit the cutter, but World kicked out. She dodged a Code Blue, and scored the victory with a roll-up.

Mark Briscoe Makes Forbidden Door Steel Cage Main Event

The main event for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2026 has been made, and the man to make it was none other than Mark Briscoe, who has more than most on the line come June 28.

Following Briscoe’s victory over PAC on the Summer Blockbuster edition of “AEW Dynamite,” Briscoe called out current AEW World Champion MJF as he had some news for him. MJF came out through the crowd to let Briscoe know that he needs to stop asking for a title match because he’s never going to get one, with MJF even hiring Jay Lethal, Lee Johnson, and Blake Christian to attack Briscoe from behind. However, The Conglomeration came to the rescue and Briscoe informed MJF that he isn’t the boss, Tony Khan is, and Khan made a deal with Briscoe that could lead to a huge moment for Briscoe.

Khan agreed that the main event of Forbidden Door will be a Six-on-Six Tag Team Steel Cage Match, with Briscoe being the team captain of one team while MJF will be the captain of the other. The extra stipulation for the match was that if Briscoe’s team gets the win at Forbidden Door, he will earn himself a guaranteed AEW World Championship match against MJF. Briscoe will naturally have The Conglomeration to rely on but it’s not yet known who will fill out the rest of his team, and as for MJF, he will likely have a tough time finding one partner for the match, let alone five.

The match will mark the second time that a multi-man Steel Cage Match takes place in the main event of Forbidden Door. The 2025 event concluded with a Lights Out Steel Cage Match which pitted The Young Bucks, The Death Riders, and Gabe Kidd against the all-star team of Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Kota Ibushi.
