Reason for Aleister Black and Wyatt Sicks WWE Releases

WWE’s latest round of post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts included several notable names, and new details have now clarified the reasoning behind those decisions.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the releases of Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, and members of the Wyatt Sicks faction came down to creative direction rather than outside influence or performance concerns.

The Wyatt Sicks group included Bo Dallas (Uncle Howdy), Joe Gacy, Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, and Erick Rowan.

Why the Wyatt Sicks Were Let Go

Dave Meltzer reported that WWE felt the group had reached its ceiling. While the faction initially gained strong reactions, it was always viewed by some internally as a short-term concept tied closely to Bray Wyatt.

“It was just felt that the group had run its course. Even at first there were those who saw it as a short-term idea. It was basically a tribute to Bray Wyatt and was over big at first but it was limiting how they could be used with that gimmick over the long haul.”

The report indicates that while the act connected early, its creative limitations made it difficult to sustain over time.

Creative Plans Lacking for Black and Vega

The same report stated that WWE simply did not have strong creative direction for Black or Vega at the time of their release.

“The feeling was they got all out of the Wyatts they were going to get and Black and Vega was just a decision made on who they weren’t going to do anything more with. The reality is that even though they recruited Black hard to get out of AEW, once he returned, they really didn’t have much in the way of ideas for him.”

This suggests that the decision was not about ability, but about long-term planning and usage.

Rumors About “Dark Characters” Addressed

There had been speculation that the releases were tied to TKO Group Holdings moving away from darker-themed characters. However, that claim was directly dismissed.

“Regarding the story that the Wyatts and Black were released because TKO didn’t like dark characters, we were told that was ‘bullshit’ and that these were not decisions that even reached that level.”

Meltzer also noted that Tony Khan had previously reached out to Vega following her 2020 WWE release, but those talks did not lead to a deal.

“(Tony Khan) did negotiate with Zelina when she was let go the last time, but she pretty much ghosted him and signed back.”

Overall, the latest update paints a consistent picture. WWE’s decisions were based on creative direction and long-term planning, rather than external mandates or specific character concerns.
