Shayna Baszler has defended longtime friend Ronda Rousey after fans questioned the legitimacy of Rousey’s ultra-fast victory over Gina Carano on Saturday’s MVP Netflix MMA event.
The fight, which aired on Netflix as part of a new MMA series under Jake Paul’s MVP banner, ended in just over 15 seconds when Rousey secured a takedown and finished Carano with her trademark armbar. The sequence closely resembled several of Rousey’s fastest finishes during her peak years in the sport.
The result immediately sparked debate online, with some fans suggesting the fight appeared staged due to its short duration and clean execution. However, Baszler pushed back strongly against that narrative on X, pointing directly to Rousey’s established history in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
“If you want to know how fast the memory of MMA fans gets erased, 17 seconds isn’t even her fastest win and people think it was worked, lol. What about her :14 win over Zigano? Or her :16 win over Davis? Or her other 5 wins under :30? Or her 9 total wins under a minute?”
Baszler referenced several of Rousey’s most notable UFC finishes, including her 14-second submission victory over Cat Zingano at UFC 184 and her 16-second armbar win over Alexis Davis at UFC 175. Those performances were part of a dominant run where Rousey established herself as one of the most dominant champions in combat sports history, with multiple finishes under one minute.
Rousey’s win over Carano on Saturday followed a similar pattern, ending almost immediately after the fight began. The matchup headlined the event, which also featured appearances from fighters including Junior dos Santos, Nate Diaz, and Francis Ngannou.
The event marked the first in a planned series of MMA showcases streamed globally on Netflix, positioning MVP as a new promotional platform blending mainstream combat sports with entertainment-driven presentation.
Baszler’s comments emphasized that, based on Rousey’s real fighting history, the quick finish was not unusual but rather consistent with her established in-ring patterns from her UFC prime.
