Trick Williams did not wait long to change his look after joining the WWE main roster. After becoming a top star in NXT, Williams moved to the bigger stage and realized that he needed more than just charisma to succeed. To compete at the highest level, he decided he needed to physically match the top stars in the company.
In an interview on My Mom’s Basement, Williams explained that he intentionally gained weight once he started appearing on WWE’s main shows. He viewed the change as a way to set a strong tone for his new career on SmackDown.
“Yeah. Yeah. You know, I done put on about 10–15 more pounds. You know what I mean? I’m throwing my weight around a little bit more now. You know, I’m feeling myself. You know what I mean? ‘Cause you know, I’m the new guy on the block and I already knew, man, like I need to set tone now. I need to set a precedence for myself right away, right out the gate. Like, man, I ain’t trying to be on my back foot 24/7,” Williams said.
For Williams, the extra muscle is about more than just looking good. He believes that the most successful stars in WWE history have always looked like powerful heavyweights. He pointed to current champions and legends as the inspiration for his transformation.
“I got to put on 10–15 pounds because that’s what the heavyweight championship looks like. If you look at the history of the guys who are really carrying the brand of WWE in the past, you know, right now it’s Drew McIntyre, you know what I mean? Like Cody Rhodes is a big guy, you know, Roman Reigns, you know, Brock Lesnar. These are heavyweight guys. These are the lions, tigers, bears, oh my, of the business. You know what I mean? And if you want to be a big dog, you got to put on that weight,” he explained.
These comments show how seriously Williams is taking his move to the main roster. Instead of staying the same, he is changing his size and mindset to fit in with the “big dogs” of the business. Since his call-up in early 2026, Williams has already made a huge impact, competing in the Men’s Elimination Chamber match and becoming a fan favorite on the blue brand.
There’s a strong internal belief within WWE that Williams’ connection with the audience could force a change in plans, potentially leading to a babyface turn.
The Road to WrestleMania 42
Williams’ strong performance at the Elimination Chamber has fueled rumors of a high-profile WrestleMania debut, possibly against Sami Zayn. Whether he is chasing titles or settling grudges, Williams clearly believes that looking like a heavyweight is the first step toward becoming a legend.
