Update on Chris Jericho’s AEW Future and Possible WWE Return

Update on Chris Jericho’s AEW Future and Possible WWE Return – Chris Jericho’s ongoing absence from AEW television has led to increasing speculation about his future with the company. According to a new report from Fightful Select, Jericho’s current AEW contract is set to expire at the end of 2025, barring an extension or any contractual freeze. This marks his longest break from AEW programming since signing with the promotion in 2019.

The report notes that Jericho has not been included in recent AEW creative discussions. However, his creative direction has traditionally been handled directly between Jericho and AEW President Tony Khan. Despite his absence, Khan reportedly remains eager to bring Jericho back, with sources describing their relationship as “still strong.”

While Jericho’s AEW deal remains active, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp confirmed that multiple wrestling companies—both in the United States and internationally—have expressed interest in the veteran star. WWE is reportedly among those who have discussed the idea of bringing Jericho back, though there have been no signs of direct talks or creative pitches at this stage.

It was also clarified that, as of a few months ago, Jericho had not been discussed from a creative standpoint within WWE. However, a WWE staff member told Fightful that Jericho’s positive crowd reactions and recent mentions on WWE television could be “a good sign for his interest” should the opportunity arise.

One WWE source told Fightful that Jericho would “almost certainly get offered several million dollars annually” if he were to return to the company. That same source noted that AEW could likely match such an offer but added uncertainty about Jericho’s current motivations and long-term goals.

Jericho has not appeared on AEW television since April 2025. AEW President Tony Khan recently addressed his status on Busted Open Radio, saying, “I love Chris Jericho. He’s a huge part of AEW. Chris is always a welcome, big part of AEW we’d always want to have here.”

Speculation around Jericho’s next move intensified after the announcement of his 2026 Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Rager at Sea cruise, which, for the first time, does not feature any AEW talent. The absence has fueled further discussion about whether Jericho could soon be preparing for a major transition in his legendary career.
