Update on Je’Von Evans’ RAW Injury – Je’Von Evans experienced an injury scare during the January 19 episode of RAW, which aired from the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His match against El Grande Americano was stopped abruptly during a commercial break, immediately raising concern among viewers and backstage personnel.
Early speculation suggested Evans may have suffered a shoulder or chest injury. However, further clarification emerged on Wrestling Observer Radio, where Bryan Alvarez explained that the stoppage stemmed from an accidental headbutt during a miscommunication in a planned sequence.
“They were doing some complicated spots,” Alvarez said. “At one point, they’re in the corner and I think Je’Von got backdropped onto the apron. And I think both guys thought the other guy was supposed to headbutt the other guy in the gut and so they both at the same time ducked—and they like headbutted each other like rams on accident.”
Dave Meltzer confirmed that the incident was not intentional, stating, “Yeah, it was clearly an accidental spot.” Alvarez added that Evans appeared to absorb most of the impact from the collision.
“Je’Von got the worst of it because he got clonked, and he just kind of stopped for a second and was like, ‘Whoa,’” Alvarez explained. “But it’s possible that during the break, maybe he was forgetting stuff or asking the ref something, and that’s when it was called off.”
Meltzer further elaborated on how decisions like this are typically made during live broadcasts. “Usually when something like that happens during the break, it’s someone watching from the back going, ‘He’s not looking good—stop the match,’” he said.
Given the nature of the impact, concerns of a possible concussion were understandable. However, Alvarez later provided a positive update on Evans’ condition following the show.
“They checked him out and cleared him to fly, so apparently it wasn’t a concussion. Hopefully, he’ll be back quickly,” Alvarez noted.
Evans was officially called up to the RAW roster earlier this month and has been gaining momentum as a rising name on the brand. While it remains unclear whether this incident will affect his plans for the Royal Rumble, the early indications suggest he avoided a serious setback.
