WWE Evolve Women’s Championship Vacated as Kendal Gray Moves to NXT

Kendal Gray Vacates WWE Evolve Women’s Championship – The March 11 episode of WWE Evolve featured two major developments, including a championship being vacated and the announcement of the brand’s second general manager.

The WWE Evolve Women’s Championship became vacant after Kendal Gray relinquished the title following her latest title defense. Gray defeated Tyra Mae Steele to retain the championship, but the match marked her final appearance on the Evolve brand as she prepares to move to WWE NXT on a full-time basis.

The decision continues a recent trend where champions vacate titles due to promotions within WWE’s developmental system. In recent months, Oba Femi also vacated his championship before being moved up to the WWE main roster.

Gray held the WWE Evolve Women’s Championship as the second titleholder in the brand’s history. The 24-year-old captured the title in September 2024 when she defeated the inaugural champion, Kali Armstrong. During her reign, Gray successfully defended the championship eight times before officially vacating it on the March 11 episode.

At this time, WWE has not announced how the next WWE Evolve Women’s Championship holder will be determined. No tournament or match format has been revealed yet for crowning a new champion.

In addition to the championship news, WWE also introduced a new authority figure for the brand. Timothy Thatcher was officially named the new general manager of WWE Evolve. The announcement was made by interim NXT general manager Robert Stone during the broadcast.

Thatcher replaces Steve Turner, who served as the inaugural general manager of Evolve before leaving the company last fall.

The new general manager brings extensive experience both inside and outside WWE. Thatcher is a former Evolve Champion and has remained active on the independent wrestling scene. He has also worked closely with WWE ID prospects, helping train and develop emerging talent connected to the program.

With a new general manager now in place and the WWE Evolve Women’s Championship vacant, the brand is expected to enter a new phase in the coming weeks as WWE determines the next champion and continues building the roster around its developing talent.
