WWE Influenced Controversial X-Division Title Match Finish at TNA Bound For Glory – Sunday’s TNA Bound For Glory event generated plenty of buzz, but not all of it for the right reasons. Amid several controversial outcomes and surprising booking decisions, the X-Division Championship match between Leon Slater and NXT’s Je’Von Evans has become a major talking point — and WWE reportedly had a significant role in how it unfolded.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Jon Alba, WWE “had a significant say in the booking direction” of the bout, which featured reigning champion Slater defending against Evans. The match reached the 20-minute time limit and was set to continue into a five-minute overtime period. However, before the extension could progress, the NXT faction Darkstate interfered, causing a non-finish that drew frustration from both the live audience and fans watching at home.
Alba’s report noted that TNA executive Carlos Silva has previously described the creative process between TNA and WWE as collaborative when it comes to crossover appearances, especially for shared stars such as Joe Hendry. Still, Alba clarified that multiple sources believe WWE maintains “a lot of pull” when its contracted wrestlers are featured on TNA programming.
“It is worth noting, though, that sources have indicated WWE especially has ‘a lot of pull’ when its talents are utilized on TNA programming,” Alba reiterated.
The report also revealed that plans for a rematch between Slater and Evans were already being discussed before Bound For Glory took place. Early indications suggest that their next encounter could happen later this month at NXT Halloween Havoc, where the two may finally get a decisive outcome after the controversial finish in Chicago.
