WWE Reportedly Planning Return To Puerto Rico For Backlash 2026

WWE Reportedly Planning Return To Puerto Rico For Backlash 2026

WWE Reportedly Planning Return To Puerto Rico For Backlash 2026 – WWE is reportedly set to bring one of its premium live events back to Puerto Rico in 2026. According to John Pollock and Brandon Thurston of POST Wrestling, the company is planning to hold WWE Backlash in San Juan, marking another major return to the island following the success of the 2023 event.

The report notes that while WWE has not officially confirmed the date or location, a source with access to an internal calendar has Backlash tentatively listed for Saturday, May 9, 2026. As of now, WWE has yet to make any public announcement regarding the event, and plans could still change.

Puerto Rico previously hosted Backlash in 2023, an event that received widespread praise for its atmosphere and crowd reactions. That show was headlined by international music star Bad Bunny facing Damian Priest in a highly physical Street Fight, a match that became one of the most talked-about bouts of the year. The energy inside the arena throughout the night was widely regarded as one of the strongest crowd environments WWE has produced in recent years.

POST Wrestling also provided financial details related to the 2023 event. According to the report, Backlash 2023 benefited from a $1.5 million subsidy along with an additional $300,000 in “in-kind contributions” from the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority. The event sold 15,145 tickets and generated a live gate of $1,447,558, underscoring the commercial success of WWE’s return to the region.

In addition to Backlash itself, WWE also held SmackDown in Puerto Rico the night before the premium live event. That episode further showcased the strong demand for WWE programming on the island and played a role in creating a full weekend destination experience for traveling fans.

However, this report conflicts with another recent report from WrestleVotes. WrestleVotes stated that the Backlash name is expected to be used for WWE’s first-ever premium live event in Italy, scheduled for May 31, 2026. If accurate, that would suggest WWE may need to either adjust the branding of one of the events or rework its international PLE naming strategy for next year.

If confirmed, Backlash 2026 would continue WWE’s recent trend of placing major events in international and non-traditional markets, capitalizing on passionate fan bases outside the continental United States. Puerto Rico’s proven track record, both financially and atmospherically, makes it a logical destination for another high-profile WWE event.

WWE has not commented on the report, but WrestlingAttitude.Com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more details become available.
