WWE Showing Strong Interest in David Finlay

WWE Showing Strong Interest in David Finlay – WWE is reportedly keeping a close eye on a familiar name as it looks ahead to future roster additions. According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, David Finlay has been discussed internally as a strong potential signing for WWE, with particular interest centered around the NXT brand.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful noted that formal negotiations have not yet begun. However, interest within WWE is said to be significant, especially as Finlay’s current commitments with NJPW are nearing their conclusion. Finlay, whose full name is David Stephen Finlay III, is the son of WWE legend and current producer Fit Finlay, giving him a direct family connection to the company.

Finlay is a fourth-generation wrestler and has established himself as a major figure in NJPW. He currently leads the Bullet Club War Dogs and has held the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship twice. His position within the company has continued to grow, highlighted by his victory in the 2025 New Japan Cup. That win further solidified Finlay’s reputation as one of NJPW’s top heels and most reliable main event performers.

Despite his success in Japan, reports suggest that Finlay is interested in spending more time in the United States in 2026. That desire has fueled speculation that a move to WWE could be a natural next step for the 32-year-old. A potential transition would place him in a system where his style and experience could translate quickly, whether starting in NXT or moving directly into main roster plans.

WWE has been active in reshaping its roster in recent months. Several talents have moved up from NXT to the main roster, including Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, Jordynne Grace, and Lash Legend. NXT General Manager Ava has also confirmed that additional roster spots are opening up as WWE prepares for the year ahead.

Finlay’s arrival would add an experienced and physical competitor to the mix at a time when WWE continues to balance new talent with established names. His potential move would also see him join the same system where his brother, Brogan Finlay, is currently developing at the WWE Performance Center.
