WWE SmackDown Results – May 8, 2026

WWE SmackDown Results – May 8, 2026 – Welcome to WrestlingAttitude’s live coverage results of WWE SmackDown on May 8, from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

After a brief racap of last week, we are live from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, as Jacob Fatu makes his way to the ring.

Fatu said that tomorrow night at Backlash, he isn’t fighting Roman Reigns for that title — he’s taking that title. Since they were young, everyone looked at Roman and saw the future. Since they were young, everyone looked at him and saw nothing. People want to talk nice to him, tell him to fall back, fall in line. Hell no. He’s seen this before with Roman. History repeats itself. Everyone talking to him isn’t trying to protect him — they’re trying to protect Roman.

Fatu said that when Roman was born, he was born with opportunity. Fatu said he was born with doubt…

The Usos’ music hit, and they made their way to the ring.

Jimmy said they weren’t out here to change Fatu’s mind. Nothing they said would change what happens tomorrow. He told Fatu he was proud of him for making it to the Backlash main event against Roman Reigns. He respected him because he knew exactly where Fatu came from. Part of him was rooting for Fatu — but the other part was looking out for him. They know how important this win is to him. But has he ever sat still and wondered what happens if he loses tomorrow?

Jey said Fatu didn’t think about that. He said Fatu pops off the rails just like he does. Tomorrow night, the Tribal Chief is going to beat him down — and that’s not even the worst part. The worst part is that Roman will break him emotionally and physically, and he’ll do it in front of his family.

Jimmy said tomorrow, Fatu’s family will be front row watching. If he loses. Jey corrected him — when he loses. Jimmy said Fatu’s wife and children will have to acknowledge Roman. Jimmy and Jey raised their fingers.

Jacob said hell no. He told them he’d break it down for them. He’s not losing. He can’t lose. They’re trying to lecture him about losing to Roman? They never beat Roman. Jimmy talking about “if” he loses — there is no losing, no acknowledging. This isn’t just the main event. This is for his family. And if there’s one thing his family will see him do, it’s become the new WWE Champion.

Then Fatu asked the question hanging over everything: Is Roman ready to die for his family?

Fatu told them one more thing. Tomorrow, if either of them even think about interfering in the match, he swears to God he will burn this whole f***ing family tree down.

Backstage

Cathy Kelley was with Nick Aldis and brought up that Gunther was scheduled to appear tonight. Aldis said what Gunther did was unacceptable — and reminded everyone that Gunther is part of Raw, not SmackDown.

Ricky Saints interrupted, saying the interview should be about him. He said he had a great debut and now he’s facing QB4. Matt Cardona walked in to confront “Rookie Saints,” telling him he wasn’t here to pass the torch — he was here to run with it.

Backstage — Nick Aldis, Jacob Fatu, Royce Keys & Solo Sikoa

We returned from commercial with Nick Aldis telling Jacob Fatu to get himself ready for tomorrow. Royce Keys walked up to Fatu and said he heard everything Fatu’s cousins told him. Fear isn’t an option. When has Jacob Fatu ever been afraid of someone breathing the same air as him? They take what they want — that’s who they are.

Keys kept walking and crossed paths with Solo Sikoa. He warned Solo to be careful with what he says. Solo told him he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. There’s a place in his family for Royce, but time is running out.

Tiffany Stratton vs. Kiana James — Women’s United States Championship

They locked up and Kiana James shoved Tiffany away, only for Tiffany to shove her right back. James grabbed a side headlock, Tiffany reversed, and then snapped her over with a slingshot headlock takedown. Tiffany followed with a clothesline and an Irish whip, but James floated over. Tiffany sent her to the apron, and James kicked her before wrenching Tiffany’s leg into the ring post.

Back inside, James hit a suplex, then kicked the hamstring and targeted the knee. She punched Tiffany and choked her on the ropes before sending her into the turnbuckles and hitting a springboard knee to the leg trapped in the ropes. James covered for a two count. She tried an Irish whip, but Tiffany caught her with an elbow. James answered with kicks to regain control. She hit a KneeDT for another two count. Tiffany fired forearms, but James kicked her back down and kept attacking the hamstring. James landed a punch, but Tiffany chopped her and went for a dropkick — James held the ropes and avoided it. She locked in a single‑leg crab until Tiffany crawled to the ropes. James took her time releasing the hold, then kicked Tiffany to the floor right in front of Giulia. James demanded to know why Giulia didn’t do anything, then rolled Tiffany back inside. Tiffany answered with chops and forearms.

Tiffany fired back with clotheslines, then hit a handspring back elbow and followed with a handspring cutter. She added a dropkick for a two count. James kicked her in the midsection but missed a running boot. She recovered with a thrust kick and a handspring into a roundhouse kick. James followed with a Death Valley Driver for another two count, then hammered Tiffany with punches. She drove Tiffany into the turnbuckles and hit repeated shoulders. James went for another shoulder in the corner, but Tiffany moved and James crashed into the ring post.

Tiffany lifted James, but Giulia jumped onto the apron. James slipped free and rolled Tiffany up, but the referee was busy with Giulia. Tiffany knocked Giulia off the apron, blasted James with a forearm, and hit the Prettiest Moonsault Ever for the three count.

Winner: Tiffany Stratton (retains the Women’s United States Championship)

After the match, Giulia and Kiana James exchanged heated words.

Viewing Room — Gingerbread Man Memorial

We went to the viewing room for Gingerbread Man, where Sami Zayn arrived, confused and frustrated. Sami asked how any of this was happening. Nick Aldis said people needed closure and asked Sami to show respect for the proceedings.

R‑Truth showed up holding a rose, offering condolences for Sami’s “loss.” He said he saw the family resemblance and that Gingerbread Man talked about Sami all the time. Truth told Sami to stay strong.

Backstage — Cathy Kelley with Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss

Cathy Kelley asked the trio about their match tonight. Rhea said they wanted to make an impression and they absolutely did — the attackers chose the wrong women to mess with. That’s why she’s excited for tonight. Charlotte said this gives them the chance to get their hands on those women together, and she’s trying to be a team player. Rhea asked if Charlotte was trying to fight her on everything. She wanted to know if there was going to be a problem, and Charlotte fired the question right back.

Alexa stepped in, saying they’re both big and strong, and they’ve tagged before — they can do it again. Rhea said she’ll be fine if Charlotte is. Charlotte said she’s fine.

Locker Room — Damian Priest & R‑Truth

Damian Priest sat in the locker room while R‑Truth rambled about Sami Zayn. Priest admitted his mind wasn’t in the right place — he wanted payback on Talla for last week’s attack. Truth said they needed to handle it together, so let’s go.

Priest stopped him. Truth isn’t at one hundred percent, and Priest didn’t want him out there because The Bloodline would target him. Truth reminded him they’re the tag champions. Priest said he was proud of that, but he didn’t want anything happening to Truth. He asked Truth to trust him.

The show cuts to a commercial break. We will be back for more WWE SmackDown results for May 8, 2026.

Talla Tonga vs. Damian Priest

Priest jumped Talla with an elbow before the bell and knocked him to the floor. He followed with a forearm off the apron and more shots on the outside. Talla answered with a knee, but Priest fired back with a thrust kick. Talla caught Priest mid‑cyclone kick and sent him into the ring post. He hammered Priest with punches and slammed him onto the announce table. While Talla distracted the referee, Solo Sikoa smashed Priest into the table. Talla hit a hot shot across the ringside barrier and rolled Priest back inside. He followed with an uppercut, an Irish whip, a corner splash, and a delayed vertical suplex for a two count. Talla then worked the neck.

Priest fought back with forearms and a kick, but Solo grabbed his leg, allowing Talla to hit a shoulder tackle and elbow drop. Priest landed another forearm, but Talla rocked him with an uppercut. Talla missed an elbow drop, and Priest avoided a corner shot, firing off punches and a kick. Talla swung again but missed a running boot. Priest hit a cyclone kick in the ropes, then a second, then a third. Talla stopped the fourth attempt. Priest boxed his ears, kicked him, and hit a clothesline. Talla rolled to the floor, and Priest followed, leaping off the ring steps with a double sledge before taking out Solo as well.

Priest sent Talla back inside and went up top, hitting a flying clothesline for a count of two. The straps came down as he set for South of Heaven.

Tama Tonga appeared, and Solo dropped Priest throat‑first on the top rope. Talla blasted him with a discus clothesline for a two count. Solo said something to Tama and—

R‑Truth ran out, taking down Tama and Solo. Tama grabbed Truth, and Priest stopped Solo from hitting the Samoan Spike. Priest told Truth to go to the back, but Talla blindsided him. Talla hit a chokeslam and covered him for the three.

Winner: Talla Tonga

After the match, Truth checked on Priest as Tama, Solo, and Talla surrounded them.

Danhausen, The Miz & Kit Wilson — Backstage Segment

Danhausen wandered around backstage trying to get people to sign on as his partner. No one seemed particularly enthusiastic.

Kit Wilson and The Miz walked up. Miz told Danhausen he didn’t have a partner — and Kit immediately called Danhausen toxic. Kit told Miz they should take their time and destroy Danhausen at Backlash. Kit added that the only person toxic enough to team with Danhausen… is Danhausen himself.

Danhausen actually liked that idea.

– Paul Heyman was shown walking in the back, entering Nick Aldis room. We will return after a break with more results from the May 8, 2026 episode of WWE SmackDown.

WWE SmackDown Preview – May 8, 2026

Tiffany Stratton puts the Women’s United States Championship on the line tonight for the first time since dethroning Giulia on the April 24 edition of SmackDown. Her challenger is Giulia’s ally Kiana James, who has faced Stratton twice before — on the October 24, 2025 SmackDown and again on March 13 — with Stratton winning both encounters. Tonight, James looks to finally flip the script, while Stratton aims to prove her reign is no fluke.

With WWE Backlash just one night away, Jacob Fatu opens the show with something to say before he challenges Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship tomorrow. Their contract signing on Monday’s Raw erupted into a full‑scale fight, ending with Fatu choking out Reigns. Fatu also crossed paths with The Usos last Friday after inadvertently helping Solo Sikoa and Talla Tonga defeat them — a chaotic moment that only deepened the tension between Fatu and the Bloodline. Tonight, Fatu sets the tone before the biggest match of his career.

Speaking of Talla Tonga, he steps into singles action tonight against one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Damian Priest. Priest and R‑Truth have racked up several successful title defenses in recent weeks, including last Friday’s win over Nathan Frazer and Axiom. With Backlash looming, Priest looks to keep momentum rolling, while Talla aims to make a statement of his own.

In six‑woman tag team action, Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley teams with Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair to battle Fatal InfluenceJacy Jayne, Lainey Reid, and Fallon Henley. Jayne scored a win over Flair last Friday thanks to interference from Henley and Reid, but the trio’s post‑match attack brought Ripley storming to the ring to even the odds. Tonight, the champion joins forces with Flair and Bliss to settle the score.

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is also scheduled to appear after defeating Ricky Saints last Friday — only to be blindsided moments later by GUNTHER, who choked him out with a sleeper. With GUNTHER now openly targeting the champion, he appears tonight with something on his mind.

Additionally, United States Champion Trick Williams will hold a funeral for The Gingerbread Man, following Sami Zayn’s attack last week that left the mascot injured and carried out by medical staff. With Williams and Zayn set to clash at Backlash, the mock funeral is sure to add fuel to an already heated rivalry.
