Another member of a legendary lucha libre dynasty appears ready to embark on a professional wrestling journey. Following in the footsteps of her iconic father and her highly successful older brother, Aalyah Mysterio is taking the necessary steps to join the family trade on a full-time basis.
Longtime fans will remember Aalyah from her previous stint as a television character in 2020 during a high-profile romance angle involving Buddy Murphy. Since that initial taste of the industry, she focused on higher education, but a series of recent trial sessions inside the squared circle completely altered her career trajectory. Her father, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, wanted to ensure she truly understood the immense physical toll of the business before committing to the grueling lifestyle.
Rey Mysterio Gives Update on Aalyah Mysterio Training at Performance Center
The wrestling icon provided a major update on his daughter’s development during an appearance on The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast. Rey Mysterio revealed that Aalyah Mysterio fell in love with the exhausting daily routine at the training facility and is now taking steps to embed herself within the developmental system.
“She graduated in July of last year. That’s from UCSD [University of California San Diego], human biology. Showed me the diploma and goes, ‘Okay, I’m ready’ Took her up in October of last year — she loved it,” Rey Mysterio said. “Sent her again this year, February, for two weeks — she loved it. And now we are in May and she’s getting ready to go up there and establish herself at the PC.”
The rapid development marks an unexpected turn of events for the legendary high-flyer. Rey Mysterio openly admitted that he never envisioned a future where both of his children chose to make a living inside the ring, but he takes immense pride in the fact that their individual passions grew organically without any parental pressure.
“I’m excited,” Rey Mysterio said. “If you would have told me, ‘Your kids are going to grow up and become wrestlers, both of them.’ Ehh, [I’d] think you’re wrong. The cool thing is, I’ve never pushed the sport down their throat. It’s all came out of them. Like, they wanted to be a part of this.”
With the legendary luchador still actively competing on a weekly basis, the theoretical arrival of his daughter opens up fascinating creative possibilities. During the podcast conversation, The Undertaker even floated an intriguing pitch for a potential cross-promotional attraction in Mexico. The Phenom suggested booking a star-studded mixed tag team encounter featuring Rey Mysterio and Aalyah Mysterio joining forces to battle Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan under the Lucha Libre AAA banner. If those plans ever materialize, the family drama would easily rival the top storylines featured on flagship broadcasts like WWE RAW.
