Mercedes Moné has officially broken her silence regarding her lengthy hiatus from national television. Following her highly anticipated return to the ring, she directly addressed the massive wave of online rumors that circulated during her six months away from the spotlight.
Moné competed in her very first matchup of 2026 on the June 3 broadcast of Dynamite. She successfully advanced to the next round of the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament by defeating Alex Windsor in a quarterfinal contest. Prior to this performance, her most recent match under the All Elite Wrestling banner occurred at Worlds End 2025, where she dropped the TBS Championship to Willow Nightingale.
Mercedes Moné Addresses Rumors and Explains Long Break From AEW Programming
To clear up the widespread speculation, Mercedes Moné published a new edition of her Moné Mag newsletter on Wednesday. The global star took the opportunity to call out the wrestling community for creating wild theories about her personal life and career status, stating that she simply needed a chance to relax.
“I’m back and I feel better than ever. Almost 6 months away. I’ve never had a break that long that wasn’t due to injury and after 16 years it was the first time I got to truly relax and have no worries. But one thing I realized during that time away? I missed wrestling so much. Especially that AEW. While I was gone I saw all the rumors. ‘Oh she’s pregnant.’ ‘Oh contract issues.’ ‘Oh she’s leaving.’ ‘Oh this.’ ‘Oh that.’ Oh… NOTHING. Can I enjoy my vacation in peace? Can a woman have a period and be bloated? Can I enjoy my time off without speculation and rumors? One thing I also learned is there’s nobody more impatient than wrestling fans. Y’all are the type of people who look up the ending of a movie before finishing it. You love not being surprised. You love not being present and fully in the moment because you’re so caught up in the fantasy. But now the wait is over.”
The multi-time champion emphasized that her extended time away from the screen had nothing to do with typical wrestling setbacks. She made it clear that her contract and physical health remain in perfect standing.
“I wasn’t gone because of injuries. I wasn’t gone because of contract issues. I was simply waiting for the right time.”
In addition to making a statement on Dynamite, Mercedes Moné made her presence felt during the final moments of AEW Collision on Saturday. She executed a post-match assault on Persephone right after Persephone suffered a loss to Hazuki in another high-stakes quarterfinal matchup for the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.
The commentary team immediately highlighted the deep history between the two competitors, noting that Persephone previously defeated Mercedes Moné to capture the CMLL World Women’s Championship at Arena Mexico back on March 6. Following the chaotic events on Collision, Mercedes Moné is now scheduled to share the ring with Hazuki in the tournament semifinals, keeping her name at the very center of the division just like the top angles featured on weekly programs like WWE RAW
