The May 23 edition of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event delivered several storyline developments, though the overall show featured fewer major newsworthy moments compared to previous specials.
The main event saw The Vision retain the World Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins came close to victory, but interference proved decisive. Paul Heyman placed Austin Theory’s foot on the ropes to stop the count. As Ford confronted Heyman, Logan Paul struck him with brass knuckles. Theory capitalized and secured the pinfall.
After the match, Bron Breakker returned to the ring as the show closed and delivered spears to both members of The Street Profits, leaving The Vision standing tall alongside Heyman.
Elsewhere on the card, Brie Bella and Paige retained the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Lash Legend and Nia Jax, continuing their current run as champions. Ethan Page fell short in his Intercontinental Title opportunity, losing to champion Penta.
In a key six-woman tag team match, Jade Cargill scored a pinfall victory over Rhea Ripley, gaining momentum ahead of their upcoming championship clash at Clash in Italy.
Another notable development came in the match between Becky Lynch and Sol Ruca. Lynch attempted to force a disqualification by pulling the referee into Ruca’s path as she set up her finishing move. However, the situation backfired, and the referee ruled against Lynch, awarding Ruca her first main roster victory.
Following the match, Lynch attacked Ruca, but it was later confirmed that she will defend the Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Ruca at Clash in Italy next weekend.
The show focused on advancing ongoing rivalries, particularly those set to culminate at Clash in Italy, while reinforcing several champions’ positions heading into the event.
