Backstage Details & Speculation Regarding AAA TripleMania 2026

Equivalent to WWE’s annual springtime event of WrestleMania, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide is preparing to make history with its first-ever two-night Triplemanía event this fall. Under the WWE banner for the second time since its acquisition last April, the king of shows will be held on Friday, September 11, and Sunday, September 13. And according to “Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select,” some backstage plans have been revealed on where night one of this highly anticipated event will take place from this year.

Based on sources close to Fightful Select, it appears there’s “heavy speculation” backstage that night one of Triplemania 34 will be held in the United States. As of this writing, there was no specification on where exactly it will be held from in the States. More information on that will be revealed soon. However, the festive card of night two will emanate from Mexico City, Mexico, at the Arena CDMX.

It’s interesting to point out that originally, WWE and AAA had called for this year’s Triplemania to remain a one night event in Mexico on Saturday, September 12. But with a number of WWE stars expressing interest in working with AAA, they’ll be able to create more showcase exhibitions. Speaking of this partnership, now that its surpassed its one-year anniversary since joining forces, there have been discussions to integrate more AAA stars into WWE programming to help expand its reach. As most have seen, AAA stars have made cameo appearances on WWE’s weekly flagship programming sporadically, including having them participate in annual special contests such as this year’s Royal Rumble and the Andre the Giant Battle Royal.

For the first time in WWE history, the AAA Mega Championship was defended on “WWE Raw” this past Monday by the self-proclaimed “King of the Luchadores” and current champion, Dominik Mysterio. He emerged victorious against the Original El Grande Americano.

Jeff Cobb Reportedly Visited NJPW Following Recent WWE Release

On the same day that it was announced that New Day had been released from WWE, two other Superstars were also released. MFT’s JC Mateo (Jeff Cobb) and Tanga Loa were also cut. Cobb left NJPW to come to WWE and has reportedly visited NJPW since his release.

In the latest issue of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that Cobb was backstage at Wrestling Dontaku. “I believe he still has a place in Japan. Unless WWE gives his special dispensation, he would not be able to return in time for G-1 if he does end up here, as the non-compete ends on 7/24.” Meltzer points to NJPW’s financial issues as a reason that Cobb may not re-sign with them. He could sign with AEW like The Dogs did, but “the reality is his chances of going to AEW as a star were much higher one year ago. WWE often enhances someone’s value, but Cobb would not be one of those people.”

Cobb debuted with WWE at Backlash 2025 when he helped Solo Sikoa during his match. In NJPW, he was a member of Untied Empire. Cobb was a multi-time champion including three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion (twice with Great-O-Khan and once with current IWGP Heavyweight Champion Callum Newman) and NJPW World Television Champion. That reign ended shortly before his WWE debut.

Jake Paul Says He Can’t Get Involved In Logan’s WWE Matches Due To TKO ‘Beef’

Jake Paul is currently striving to excel past being viewed as merely an online influencer and more as a serious professional boxer and figurehead behind Most Valuable Promotions (MVP). However, his maneuvers have led to reactions from TKO and its subsidiaries in UFC and WWE. According to Jake, his involvement with MVP has made it so he can’t be in his older brother’s corner in WWE for the foreseeable future. Despite the trouble, he enjoys what he describes as playful banter between himself and TKO.

“I don’t take any beefs too serious. I think it’s definitely in the name of entertainment; however, there is truth in it,” the 12-2 professional boxer said on “Smash Cast.” “From my side, I’m just having fun. The fact that one of the biggest organizations in the world, the TKO group, has this major beef with me, they won’t even let me go be in my brother’s WWE matches because they hate me so much. And so it’s pretty wild, how much under their skin we are. … I enjoy s*** talk. I like when people make fun of me. I’m easy to make fun of. I’m able to make fun of myself.”

It’s worth noting that Paul’s MVP company was already in existence by the time he made an appearance at the 2022 Crown Jewel premium live event, but WWE and UFC had not yet merged. According to Dave Meltzer on “Wrestling Observer Radio,” he reached out to hear if Paul was, in fact, banned from WWE involvement, but the company did not comment.

Jake has a big weekend ahead of him, as his promotion will host its first-ever MMA event, which will be headlined by Gina Carano versus Ronda Rousey this Saturday evening on Netflix. Over in WWE, Logan is currently in his first reign as one-half of the World Tag Team Champions with Austin Theory.

TNA Announces Return Of Ultimate X Stipulation For Slammiversary 2026

For the first time in over a year, TNA Wrestling is bringing back one of its signature stipulation matches for one of its biggest shows of the calendar year, the Ultimate X match.

During the May 14 episode of “TNA Impact,” it was announced that the Ultimate X match would be returning at this year’s Slammiversary 2026 event in Boston, Massachusetts on June 28. The TNA X-Division Championship was also confirmed to be on the line, meaning that the winner of the two-out-of-three falls match between Leon Slater and Cedric Alexander in the show’s main event would have to defend their crown in the high-wire spectacle. Alexander walked away with the victory, becoming the new champion and preventing Slater from becoming the longest-reigning TNA X-Division Champion in the process, with Slater’s reign ending at 298 days, tying Austin Aries’ record that was set back in 2012. No participants other than Alexander have been confirmed for the bout at the time of writing.

Slammiversary 2026 will mark the 55th time that an Ultimate X match has taken place since its introduction in 2003. The match was last used at the 2025 Rebellion pay-per-view in April of last year, with Moose successfully retaining his TNA X-Division Championship in a match that also featured Matt Cardona, El Hijo del Vikingo, KC Navarro, Sidney Akeem, and the aforementioned Leon Slater. Alexander will be hoping that he has the same fortune as Moose last year as he has never been in an Ultimate X match before, let alone defended a title in the match. However, Moose was in the same situation last year and managed to get the job done. Regardless of who enters the match, no one is near the record for most Ultimate X matches that is currently held by Chris Sabin with 15.

Two Title Matches Added To ROH Supercard Of Honor 2026

In addition to Davis vs. Xelhua being added to the card, it was announced that Ace Austin would also be in action at Supercard Of Honor following his match with Will Ospreay on “AEW Dynamite” on Wednesday. In a backstage segment after “Dynamite” concluded, Austin revealed that he will challenge Lee Moriarty for the ROH Pure Title tonight.

“Did you know that I am undefeated in Ring Of Honor? If you watch “Dynamite,” you might not know that, cause yes it’s true that I’ve lost more than I’ve won on “Dynamite,” Austin admitted. “Winning is great, but I’ve learned more from these losses than any amount of wins could’ve ever taught me … Lee, we’ve known each other for over 10 years, but that doesn’t matter, our paths have been so different and you have quite the tight grip on the Pure Championship, but that doesn’t last forever.”

Austin and Moriarty previously fought twice on the independent wrestling scene, with the record between both competitors being tied at one a piece heading into tonight’s matchup. Elsewhere on the card, Deonna Purrazzo will defend the ROH Women’s Pure Title against Diamante, Nigel McGuinness will battle Josh Woods in a Pure Rules Match, and Bandido will go one-on-one with Blake Christian in the main event for the ROH World Title.
