WWE’s Danhausen Crashes The Set Of ESPN SportsCenter, Runs Down Top Plays Of The Day

Although Danhausen is extremely popular in the pro wrestling community, he is aware of the top plays happening across the rest of the sports industry-hausen. Recently, he appeared on ESPN “SportsCenter” to announce which moments in this week’s sporting events were “Very Nice, Very Evil.”

In the segment, Danhausen announced that Victor Wembanyama (NBA – third), Dansby Swanson (MLB – second), and Kirby Dach (NHL – first) made the list as this week’s top three athletes to watch if you haven’t done so already. Of course, he couldn’t describe the best moments to watch over and over again without showing himself hitting The Miz below the belt at this year’s “Grandest Stage of Them All,” WrestleMania 42. He named this moment the “special play.”

Before sneaking away, he reminded everyone out there in TV land to watch tomorrow night’s premium live event, Backlash, on ESPN (in the United States) and Netflix (internationally), or else they’ll be – you guessed it – “cursed.” Danhausen is scheduled to compete in tag team action with a mystery partner against The Miz and Kit Wilson.

Other high stake matches scheduled for tomorrow include Roman Reigns putting his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line for the first time since winning it at WrestleMania last month against his cousin “The Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu. Plus, John Cena will reveal an announcement that he claims will “shock the very foundation of the WWE.” Backlash will emulate live from Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida.

NWA Celebrates Powerrr Audience For Comet TV Debut

NWA Celebrates Powerrr Audience For Comet TV Debut

National Wrestling Alliance is celebrating the audience figure for the first episode of NWA Powerrr on Comet TV.

According to the promotion, the May 2, 2026 episode drew 275,000 households, with the figure attributed to Nielsen data.

The episode marked NWA’s return to broadcast television for the first time in approximately 30 years and also served as the launch of the promotion’s new weekly Saturday time slot on Comet TV.

In a statement posted on social media, the company thanked fans for supporting the debut episode.

“THANK YOU, FANS! The numbers are in, and Nielsen reports 275,000 households tuned in to the May 2 episode of NWA POWERRR on Comet TV.”

The company also highlighted the significance of returning to broadcast television after decades away from that platform.

“The episode marked the National Wrestling Alliance’s long-awaited return to broadcast television after 30 years.”

However, some confusion emerged regarding the actual measurement being referenced.

The graphic included alongside the announcement reportedly labeled the number as “Persons 2+,” which traditionally refers to total viewers age two and older rather than households.

That created uncertainty because the written statement specifically referred to households, which represents a different television metric entirely.

Households measure how many homes tuned into a program, while total viewers measure the estimated number of individual people watching.

The NWA announcement also did not clarify whether the 275,000 figure represented the average audience across the full broadcast or the cumulative number of viewers who tuned in at any point during the show.

If the number represents an average audience of 275,000 viewers, it would significantly outperform Comet TV’s reported 2025 primetime average audience of approximately 92,000 viewers according to USTVDB data.

For comparison, the April 30 episode of TNA Impact reportedly averaged 209,000 viewers on AMC.

NWA Powerrr now airs weekly on Saturdays at 4 p.m. Eastern on Comet TV as the promotion continues rebuilding its television presence.

Backstage News On WWE’s Original Plans For JC Mateo Revealed

Backstage News On WWE’s Original Plans For JC Mateo Revealed

Jeff Cobb was reportedly set for a major singles push in WWE before those plans were ultimately scrapped following his arrival.

Cobb competed under the name JC Mateo during his short WWE run before being released as part of the company’s post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts on April 24.

JC Mateo WWE push plans changed

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE originally viewed Cobb as a potential singles star when he first joined the company.

“Cobb was at first planned for a big push as he was to work with key people in singles in plans that never ended up happening.”

However, Meltzer noted that those plans changed after WWE evaluated him internally.

“For whatever reason, after seeing him, he became a face in the crowd of the MFTs, a group built around Sikoa, and with Tama Tonga getting the screen time and Talla Tonga as the monster.”

Before signing with WWE, Cobb arrived with a strong reputation from both the independent scene and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

During his career outside WWE, Cobb captured championships including the NEVER Openweight Championship and the ROH World Championship.

Many expected his combination of power, athleticism, and in-ring ability to translate into a major role within WWE programming.

Instead, Cobb became one of several supporting members of The MFTs alongside Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Talla Tonga.

According to Meltzer, Tama Tonga largely received the majority of the faction’s television focus while Talla Tonga was positioned as the dominant monster figure within the group.

Backstage Resistance To WWE Gingerbread Man Storyline Revealed

The Gingerbread Man storyline involving Trick Williams and Sami Zayn reportedly faced notable internal resistance within WWE creative.

According to WrestleVotes, several members of WWE’s creative team pushed back against the heavy use of the Gingerbread Man gimmick throughout the SmackDown storyline.

WWE Gingerbread Man storyline criticism

A source close to the creative process reportedly described the angle as “hokey and archaic,” with significant disagreement internally regarding the direction of the program.

The Gingerbread Man character was introduced on WWE SmackDown as part of the friendship storyline between Trick Williams and rapper Lil Yachty.

The angle eventually became one of the more polarizing parts of the program after Zayn’s character attacked and effectively “killed off” the Gingerbread Man during SmackDown.

The segment drew mixed reactions from fans online and, according to the report, also divided opinion backstage within WWE.

Zayn recently addressed his evolving character direction during an interview with The Toronto Sun and explained that he does not view his current role as a full heel turn.

“I’ll disagree with your statement that I fully turned heel here. I don’t think I have.”

He explained that the idea behind the character adjustment was to create something more nuanced and less traditional.

“I think I’m trying to play this one a little different because this one is kind of different. We’re kind of riding these reactions, which are different week to week.”

Zayn admitted the storyline has not always unfolded exactly the way he originally imagined.

“Sometimes things just don’t work out exactly how you envision it, and sometimes you think you’re gonna be somewhere on the timeline and you’re not.”

He also acknowledged that the Gingerbread Man attack was always likely to generate backlash from viewers.

“Although to be fair, if you kick a mannequin Gingerbread Man below the belt, that might upset people because people want to have fun.”

Despite the mixed reactions, WWE has continued leaning into the unusual storyline as part of Zayn’s ongoing character evolution on SmackDown.
