Dave Meltzer Says WWE Has Yet To Reach Its Initial ‘Goal’ For AAA Acquisition

WWE announced its acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide during WWE WrestleMania 41 weekend, bringing various stars from both companies to the pre-show stage for the grand reveal. Since then, two WWE x AAA Worlds Collide premium live events have been held, and talents have gone between both companies, with WWE stars appearing in AAA, and AAA stars on “WWE NXT” as well as the main roster.

At AAA Noche de Los Grandes at Arena Monterrey on May 30, two WWE stars, El Grande Americano Original (Chad Gable) and El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser), will face off in a mask-vs-mask match. Kaiser has been exceptionally over in Mexico, and it’s a match that Dave Meltzer said on “Wrestling Observer Radio” may help WWE achieve an initial goal it has yet to with AAA.

“They’ve had the company for a year, and the reason they bought the company was to sell, I mean it was not to save wrestling in Mexico,” Meltzer said. “The goal was to get a Spanish station in the United States… Univision, Telemundo, whatever, to pay them lots of money like they do with other wrestling programs. That was the goal and obviously, here we are. That goal was not achieved, yet. I think the idea is to go in there with some number and have the number be big enough to impress the people who make those decisions at Univision and Telemundo and those other places to go like, ‘Hey, this thing is hot.'”

The special will air on WWE’s YouTube channel worldwide. Back in November, AAA announced a broadcast deal with FOX, for programming to air on the channel and its various services in Mexico and much of Central and South America. Noche de Los Grandes will air on FOX platforms in the broadcast deal area, as well.

WWE Raw Results 5/4 – Oba Femi Open Challenge Begins, Backlash WHC Contract Signing

Welcome to Wrestling Inc.’s live coverage for “WWE Raw” on May 4, 2026, coming to you live from the CHI Health Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska!

After scoring a quick victory against Grayson Waller during last Monday’s edition of “Raw”, Oba Femi issued an Open Challenge to anyone in the back who was looking to prove themselves by being the first person on “Raw” or “SmackDown” to break his undefeated streak against the likes of Kit Wilson, The Miz, Johnny Gargano, Rusev, and Brock Lesnar. Tonight, said Open Challenge will begin for anyone who wishes to answer the call.

Jacob Fatu will be challenging Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Backlash this coming Saturday. Before the two men meet in the ring, they will be making their match official by putting pen-to-paper with a contract signing. The two men met in the ring in the closing moments of last Monday’s show in a verbal confrontation that turned physical and ended in Fatu taking out Reigns with a submission hold.

The “Raw” roster will be gaining its newest member, as Sol Ruca puts pen-to-paper by signing a contract with the red brand. Ruca bid farewell to “WWE NXT” at Week Two of the “NXT” Revenge television special on April 21 when she came up short to her former best friend Zaria in a Last Woman Standing Match, and has only competed in one match on “Raw” thus far wherein she came up short to Women’s World Champion and Judgment Day member Liv Morgan.

Speaking of Judgment Day, JD McDonagh will be in action as he goes head-to-head with his former mentor and friend Finn Balor. As Balor continues his quest to seek out retribution on his former stablemates for kicking him out, he previously scored a win against McDonagh on the April 20 episode of “Raw”.

Ethan Page will be joining forces with Rusev to take on Je’Von Evans and Intercontinental Champion Penta in tag team competition. All four men encountered one another last Monday when Page and Rusev blindsided Penta with an attack and Evans came to Penta’s aid moments after Penta had defeated Rusev in a non-title singles match.

Additionally, former friends IYO SKY and Asuka will be meeting with one another five days before they collide in the ring at Backlash.

We are live! Michael Cole and Corey Graves greet audiences at home as we head backstage and see Adam Pearce approach Roman Reigns in an effort to calm him down. Reigns then looks to make his way to the ring, but Pearce stops him and tells him that Jacob Fatu has not arrived at the CHI Health Center Omaha just yet. Seth Rollins stares down Reigns and tells him that he’s in his way, then makes his way to the ring.

Biggest Winners And Losers Of The Week — 5/4/2026

The gingerbread man angle on “WWE SmackDown” was funny for a while, and it kind of brought out a subtle, silly Attitude Era vibe. Trick Williams started calling then-United States Champion Sami Zayn a “gingerbread man” in their feud leading up to WWE WrestleMania 42, even going as far as releasing a diss track alongside Lil Yachty with the same title, all making fun of Zayn’s hair color and build.

Williams brought out a person in a life-sized (or man-sized?) gingerbread man costume to continue to egg on Zayn, but the second time the costumed person accompanied Williams and Yachty to the ring, it was, of course, Zayn, beneath the gingerbread head. He beat them both down while wearing the costume, and it was funny. Of course it was Zayn in the costume, as anyone who has watched WWE for a long period of time would realize, but it was still cute and amusing. And that’s where the entire thing should have ended.

On Friday’s edition of the blue brand, in some of the most Vince McMahon-esque booking I’ve seen in a hot minute, Zayn cut a promo on the empty gingerbread man costume in the middle of the ring, then attacked it. Okay, that’s also fine, I guess, as I realize they’re trying to turn Zayn fully heel, but then WWE just had to take it even further, and that’s when things got ridiculous. Medical staff checked on the, again, EMPTY, costume in the ring and took it back to the trainer’s room.

We then saw a serious update with Cathy Kelley backstage, accompanied by Williams, who was informed the gingerbread man is dead. At that point Williams vowed to take on Zayn for the title he won at WrestleMania, this time at Backlash. It was then further revealed that a funeral will be held for the gingerbread man on “SmackDown” next week. Yeesh.

This is a prime example of “SmackDown” not needing its current three hour runtime, which thankfully, reportedly, comes to an end at the end of the month. The “funeral” is obviously going to lead to a brawl before Backlash between Williams and Zayn, but WWE creative beating the gingerbread man angle into the ground is pretty lame. It also makes Zayn look like a very silly heel, rather than a serious one, which in turn doesn’t make him look like any kind of serious contender to get the United States Championship back.

Zayn’s character direction was already murky as fans started to boo him, and now it’s even more confusing, and overall, kind of lame. WWE creative is the real loser this week.

TKO Reportedly Asking Numerous WWE Talents To Take Pay Cuts, Possibly As High As 50%

There’s a whole lot to say about this insane story, so let’s start from the beginning and work our way through. First things first; if it’s true that WWE/TKO is offering pay cuts of any kind, let alone 50% pay cuts, we all have to collectively ask just what in the holy hell they’re doing. I know what they’re thinking; profits, profits, and more profits. It’s the number one thought in a corporation’s brain trust, and nothing helps revenue and profits go up then paying your work force less. The only issue here is we already know WWE/TKO pays less thanks to Brandon Thurston’s report that WWE talent only received 15% of company revenue a few years ago. It’s not like the number has ballooned that much since, and now the Ari Emanuels and Mark Shapiros of the world potentially want WWE talent to take these pay cuts while they, and the company, are raking in millions? I think they can sacrifice a few of those dollars to make sure their talent doesn’t mutiny.

But then again, maybe they know that’s not happening when we have the insinuation that a wrestler may have actually taken this 50% pay cut. If that’s also true, I have an even bigger “what in the holy hell are you doing?!” than I did for the WWE/TKO execs. I think in some form we’ve all given up on the idea of a wrestling union any time soon, as the wrestlers just don’t seem interested in it. That still doesn’t mean that wrestlers should be agreeing to these cuts; all you’re doing then is telling your corporate overlords that they can do this with everyone else, bring the pay scale down, and make sure wrestlers earn less (and again, they’re already making less than they should). I sincerely hope we learn that none of these wrestlers took pay cuts, that no one took a 50% pay cut, or that none were offered one. But if it’s all true, it’s bad all around, with not a positive to be found in sight.

President Donald Trump Provides Update On UFC Arena Construction At The White House

President Trump said on Friday that construction of the UFC arena on the South Lawn of the White House is due to begin this week.

The White House is set to play host to UFC Freedom 250 on June 14, Trump’s birthday, with a temporary arena set-up for what Dana White has said will be 4,300 private attendees – most of which being service members. The Ellipse will play host to a public watch party due to host approximately 85,000.

Those numbers were slightly exaggerated when Trump spoke to reporters about the event on Friday. During which, he said that construction of the arena was due to begin over the next week.

“The arena, they’re going to start building [the arena] over the next week. It’s right here, it will be about 5,000 seats. They’ll have 100,000 people down at the Ellipse, and it’s all gonna be free.”

Freedom 250 has been designated a SEAR 1 event by Homeland Security, placing it at the same federal security requirements as the Super Bowl, although it has yet to be determined which agencies will be handling security.

The event itself will be headlined by Ilia Topuria versus Justin Gaethje for the Undisputed Lightweight Championship, and in the co-main event Alex Pereira will be fighting Ciryl Gane for the Interim Heavyweight Championship.
