Lizzy Rain Opens Up On Emotional NXT Debut And Journey To The Ring

Lizzy Rain has shared her reaction to making her WWE debut, describing the experience as overwhelming after years of setbacks and uncertainty.

Rain made her first appearance on WWE NXT this week in a match against Nikkita Lyons. Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, she reflected on what the moment meant to her.

“I’m overwhelmed. It’s what I’ve, what I’ve always wanted, what I’ve worked the last few years on the indies for, what all my heartbreak was for when I had a knee surgery, It just means so much to be on WWE TV. It just absolutely blows my mind. I just thought I’d never get there. I did, hands on heart, thought I’d never get there. And now here I bloody am. So it’s very surreal, very surreal. And Nikkita, I was so happy I got to wrestle her for my first match. I couldn’t have asked for a better opponent for my first match.”

Rain revealed that a torn ACL in 2023 was a major setback that made her question her momentum on the independent scene. Despite that, she continued training and eventually reached WWE.

She also spoke about her early doubts. Growing up, she wanted to become a wrestler, but said her family did not take the goal seriously. Starting training at 23 made the dream feel even more difficult compared to others who began much earlier.

A key turning point came through Pretty Deadly. Hearing their accents made her realize there was a local path into wrestling, which led her to contact them and find a training school nearby.

“I thought, ‘well, you know what? I’ll give this wrestling thing a go and see if it actually does take off’. Because NXT UK was a thing and that kind of gave me hope. I heard Pretty Deadly speaking and I heard their accents and I was like, ‘oh, I know the accent, that’s my accent. They must wrestle around me. They must have trained around me’. So I messaged one of them and they got back to me and said there’s a training school 20 minutes away from you. And I was like, ‘oh, okay, maybe this can become a thing.’”

Rain said the timeline leading to her debut moved quickly. She revealed that she found out about her NXT appearance during WrestleMania weekend.

“I haven’t really had a lot of guidance in what they expect from me. It’s all just happened very fast. They’ve just thrown me in the deep end. Got a text during WrestleMania, ‘You’re filming this vignette for NXT’ and was like, ‘Oh! Really? Okay. I didn’t know this was gonna be happening so fast. I just did my dark match last week’ and so, yeah, it just all happened in a flash so, I haven’t even got to that point yet of what’s expected of me.”

WWE officially announced Rain as part of a new Performance Center class in March. She previously competed as Rayne Leverkusen on the independent circuit before adopting her new ring name.

Rain also carries a personal connection to music history, as the niece of former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr, which has influenced her “Maiden of Metal” persona.

Lizzy Rain NXT debut marks a major milestone in her career, following years of effort, injury recovery, and a late start in the industry.

WWE’s AJ Styles On Dream Match With AEW’s Kenny Omega: ‘It’s Never Going To Happen’

AJ Styles had a number of dream matches in his legendary career, but one that slipped away was a clash against AEW’s Kenny Omega, which he recently addressed.

Styles and Omega, regarded as two of the best in-ring technicians of their era, never got to have a singles match in a big promotion, having wrestled once in the indies at the start of Omega’s career. “The Phenomenal One” reflected on that dream match not happening on the “Phenomenally Retro” podcast, emphasizing how there’s no possibility of it happening now due to his retirement.

“I would like to have had a match with him [Omega] anywhere, but it didn’t happen. It didn’t happen. You know, we just kind of ran out of time. You know, I got too old and we were different places and it is what it is. It just wasn’t meant to be and it’s never going to happen,” he said. “Just so I’m just throwing that out there: Never going to happen. Never going to happen.”

Omega and Styles’ time in NJPW overlapped, but they never got to face each other in a singles match, with them sharing the ring in the Japanese promotion only once, which came in a tag team match. The two teamed against CHAOS’ Shinsuke Nakamura and YOSHI-HASHI in 2016, a few weeks before both Styles and Nakamura were to join WWE.

Omega and Styles had one match against each other, back in 2006, when a young Omega got the better of Styles in indie promotion PCW. The match left a huge impression on Omega, who committed himself to his dream of becoming a star in pro wrestling after that encounter. Styles himself has had only good things to say about the AEW star, stating that he has only had positive interactions with him.

Kairi Sane Comments On WWE Release: ‘I Truly Love This Work’

Kairi Sane was recently released by WWE alongside several other stars after WrestleMania 42, and she has now taken to social media to thank the fans and her peers while also seemingly dismissing some reports about her exit.but I truly love this work, my teammates, and my fans.
I’ve never walked away, and I’ve given my all in everything I do.
I hope you’re all doing well ❤️

— Kairi Sane (@KAIRI_official) April 28, 2026

The Japanese star’s first run with WWE ended in 2021, ultimately leading her to return to Japan, where she worked as a WWE ambassador for the final year of her contract. She eventually returned to WWE in 2023 after wrestling for NJPW following her initial WWE exit. Much like the social media movement to bring back R-Truth last year, fans of Sane have also demanded that WWE re-sign her following her release after WrestleMania 42. However, unlike with R-Truth, WWE reportedly has no plans to heed the fans’ requests, with reports indicating that she is already back in her homeland.

Sane could very well return to the United States in the future with WWE’s key rival, AEW, which was previously interested in signing her after she left WWE during her first stint.

Report: Ex-WWE Star Santos Escobar Nearly Joined CMLL In 2025, Could End Up There

Santos Escobar was a part of the latest post-WrestleMania releases in WWE and it seems that he was close to joining Mexican promotion CMLL before re-signing with WWE last year.

Escobar was a free agent last year after his deal with WWE expired, but the TKO-owned promotion offered him a great deal to keep him in the promotion, as per “Fightful Select.” The report claimed that the former “WWE NXT” star was eager to join CMLL after his WWE contract expired. If he had joined CMLL, the report added, Escobar could’ve featured in AEW thanks to the close ties between the two promotions. The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion had featured in CMLL over a decade ago before becoming a key fixture in AAA and Lucha Underground.

Escobar featured in AAA since re-signing with WWE, but hadn’t wrestled on the main roster. The Mexican star was reportedly backstage at a WWE main roster show but wasn’t used, with WWE instead choosing to feature him in AAA. His last match came at a AAA show in March, where he aggravated the injury that later required surgery.

The report by “Fightful” also added that WWE has allowed Escobar to use its Performance Center to rehab his injury, and it is believed that he will recover by the time his 90-day no-compete clause expires. Reports from a few weeks ago had stated that Escobar was unhappy at how he was being used by WWE, just months after he had signed a lucrative deal with them.
