Jacob Fatu had a major WrestleMania 42 moment, and Roman Reigns made sure he stayed focused before stepping into it.
Speaking with Daniel Cormier, Fatu admitted the nerves hit hard just before his Unsanctioned Match with Drew McIntyre. That is when Reigns stepped in backstage with a simple message that stuck.
“Nah, but yesterday was, it was emotional. It didn’t hit me until I actually was getting ready to walk out. I’m so nervous. I seen a couple cats on the way. I seen my big Uce, I seen the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns yesterday. Right before I walked out. He still calls me Jake, Jakester, Jakey, you know what I mean? So he had to (tell me), you know, ‘hey, man, calm down. Enjoy the moment,’ you know? Something that my wife always tells me, but Roman was like, ‘just take it all in,’ and before I went out, man, being ready, having my gear on and locked in, just thinking about all the tough times, all the struggle, everything to bring me to this moment right here. I mean, come on, I’m very blessed to be in WWE for two years and be 2-0 at WrestleMania right out the gate.”
Fatu did not hold back when it came to McIntyre either, giving him full credit for pushing things to another level.
“Drew McIntyre ain’t no regular guy. He’s a beast. So, it might sound weird, but shout out to Drew”
“No, he’s not (a normal dude). I mean we got to think about what he’s been doing. I feel like this would have never happened, it would have never had got to where it went if it wasn’t for Drew McIntyre.”
Fatu went on to defeat McIntyre on Night One, improving to 2-0 at WrestleMania just two years into his WWE run.
The momentum carried into Raw, where Fatu immediately set his sights on Reigns and the World Heavyweight Championship. He made it clear he needs everything Reigns has, not just wants it.
Reigns did not shut it down, but he did not greenlight it either. Instead, he told Fatu to think carefully about what comes with being champion and gave him a week to decide. As the show closed, Reigns was heard telling Jimmy Uso to talk some sense into him.
Though the ongoing war in Iran has left many wondering if it could still take place, so far, WWE has held firm that WrestleMania 42 will be held in Saudi Arabia come 2027. That decision has not only left WWE open to criticism due to Saudi Arabia’s poor human rights history, and the ongoing war posing danger, but has left many wondering what that means for WrestleMania weekend, as most, if not all, independent promotions are not expected to travel to Saudi to run shows.
As a result, it’s been suggested that a major event, done by AEW, another US promotion or a conglomeration of promotions, could take place in the states instead, with smaller promotions converging around it to create an alternate to WrestleMania weekend. When asked if that was possible during the most recent episode of “My World,” AEW’s Jeff Jarrett stated he did think a major US alternate to WrestleMania could happen, and that it would be big if it did happen.
Whether it will or not, according to Jarrett, depends on if WrestleMania does take place in Saudi Arabia next year, something Jarrett remains highly skeptical of.
“When you run something for the first time, it’s always big and new,” Jarrett said. “If Mania really goes to Saudi, which I think…it’s so disconnected. It’s not like it’s London or Toronto or something like that. I just think the opportunity’s wide open for the entire industry. Like, if you’re not affiliated with WWE, it’s going to be wide open. So yeah, I do…But I also think, if I’m a betting man, they [WWE] don’t go to Saudi next year.”

This past weekend, Trick Williams had his first WrestleMania moment when he defeated Sami Zayn for the United States Championship on the second night of this year’s show, and he’s already begun to think about his future opponents at the event going forward.
Speaking on “The Pivot Podcast,” Williams was asked what his dream WrestleMania world title match would be, and the United States Champion named one of the biggest names in WWE today as the opponent he’d want to face at “The Grandest Stage Of Them All.”
“Roman Reigns … cause he’s the flag bearer of the company for the past three, four, five, six, seven, eight years. How long? I mean, and that’s all due respect to Cody Rhodes who’s done an amazing job. Like he’s still on top of his game. CM Punk doing his thing. Randy Orton, who’s talking trash, said that I’m not 6’5. We the same size,” he explained. “But Roman Reigns is the guy, you know what I mean? Like the guy who put the company on his back, you know what I mean? If I want to be in the business and I say I want to be the best of all time, I got to see the best of all time. And right now that’s Roman Reigns.”
Williams has already stood toe-to-toe with former world champions such as Randy Orton and Damian Priest since being called up to the main roster at the beginning of the year. At this rate, if Williams continues to build upon his momentum as one of the most popular stars on “WWE SmackDown,” his goal of eventually wrestling Roman Reigns could come to fruition sooner rather than later.
