Details On Relationship Between Cain Velasquez And AAA Under WWE

Now free and clear of his attempted murder conviction after receiving an early release from prison in February, former UFC fighter and AAA/WWE wrestler Cain Velasquez re-emerged in public last weekend, working the broadcast of the Ronda Rousey-Gina Carano fight on Netflix. While Velasquez isn’t likely to get into the octagon again, his appearance did lead to Dave Meltzer discussing his wrestling prospects on “Wrestling Observer Radio.” And Meltzer revealed that, if not for WWE acquiring AAA last year, Velasquez might’ve returned to lucha libre.

“I know this one factually; if WWE had not bought AAA, he would already be wrestling for AAA,” Meltzer said. “You know, they [WWE and Velasquez] didn’t leave on the best of terms. And I don’t think WWE really wants him, in the sense that what their goals are. Their goals aren’t ‘Let’s bring in a Mexican celebrity.'”

Because of that, Meltzer believes the odds of Velasquez returning to AAA in the immediate future aren’t very strong. He also seemed skeptical of AAA’s competitor, CMLL, bringing Velasquez in, largely because he doesn’t believe CMLL would offer up the money to make the appearances happen.

“They don’t pay enough to do that,” Meltzer said. “I mean, I think he might like it. I think he actually might love it, cause he actually loves lucha libre. But you know, again, he was a AAA guy. I don’t think CMLL would pay for it. But AAA would have. But no, the AAA people, Dorian Roldan, Konnan, those people that were involved, they loved him. They loved Cain Velasquez.

“But I think it’s even…I was pretty much told that actually, that if it was Dorian’s company, then they would’ve definitely brought Cain in for big shows, because that’s how much they think of him. But with this company, I don’t think its even in the…they wouldn’t even consider it, because their goals are completely different right now.”

Lyra Valkyria Names WWE NXT Star She Hopes To Face In John Cena Classic

When the former and first-ever 17-time world champion announced his “John Cena Classic” at Backlash earlier this month, the “what if” floodgates opened wide up. With the annual event positioning the greats of “WWE NXT” up against the top draws of the main roster, former NXT Women’s and former inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria is longing for the chance to be part of this first-ever showcase.

While speaking with Soundsphere Magazine, Valkyria said, “When I watched Cena announce this upcoming tournament, I was like, wow, if I was still in ‘NXT,’ I would have been… you know, like, such an exciting time. Especially with all the talent, like you just said in ‘NXT,’ you know, I feel like it just could be anyone’s chance to really make themselves the next big thing. So I’m really excited for this tournament, and to see who’s going to, like, stand out, and who’s going to step up. To get to be a part of it as well, that would be very cool.”

Should luck be on her side, and she not only gets to participate, but gets to choose who she could challenge, the Irish star would love to trade strikes with the former and inaugural Women’s North American Champion and former TNA Knockouts World Champion, Kelani Jordan. Though, they both have faced one another several times at the Performance Center, but never on camera.

“I crossed over with time in ‘NXT’ with Kelani Jordan… we never, we never crossed paths in the ring on ‘NXT,’ but we got in the ring a lot together in the Performance Center,” she mentioned. “I’ve always thought she had such a fantastic work ethic, and she’s very cool… I want to see if she stepped up. I’d love to see what she’s got, if I was able to choose anyone.”

Jordan is currently working her way up toward becoming the next NXT Women’s Champion, an accolade Valkyria once had before her eventual landing on the main roster. With a more vindictive approach to her in-ring style, Jordan’s last televised victory came at the expense of former EVOLVE Women’s Champion Kendal Grey last Tuesday.

WWE’s Ethan Page Explains What The Intercontinental Championship Means To Him

This upcoming weekend, Ethan Page will challenge Penta at Saturday Night’s Main Event for the Intercontinental Championship, a title that the former “WWE NXT” star has been dreaming of winning since he fell in love with wrestling.

During a recent interview with “Complex,” Page outlined his lifetime goal of becoming Intercontinental Champion, but isn’t thrilled about the location of where his match with Petna will transpire.

“It’s the first thing I’ve ever wanted to do as a fan of professional wrestling. So everything’s kind of lining up for I guess Ethan Page’s boyhood dream. It’s just weird it’s going to happen in Fort Wayne.”

Along with his pursuit of the Intercontinental Championship, Page also commented on his journey to WWE, stating that his work ethic, knowledge and experience makes him the most dangerous person in the company. In addition, with Page being from Hamilton, Canada, he claims that an IC title victory will lead him to inspire Canadian fans.

“I legitimately believe in my heart of hearts under contract in the WWE, I’m the best professional wrestler right now. But there’s a step to every single thing here and I need to take the first step and that’s the Intercontinental Championship. It is. It’s going to be part of my history, part of my lineage. I’m going to inspire some Canadian right now watching professional wrestling,” he explained. “I have been genuinely hated my whole career … nobody wanted me here. People were fighting actively to keep me out of the WWE.

After having followed the storied history of the Intercontinental Championship, Page named Razor Ramon, The Rock and Shawn Michaels as his three favorite wrestlers to hold the title. He also shared that he prefers the IC title design with the rounded edges that debuted in the late 1990s.

Shayna Baszler Defends Legitimacy of Ronda Rousey’s Win Over Gina Carano

Shayna Baszler Defends Legitimacy of Ronda Rousey’s Win Over Gina Carano

Shayna Baszler has defended longtime friend Ronda Rousey after fans questioned the legitimacy of Rousey’s ultra-fast victory over Gina Carano on Saturday’s MVP Netflix MMA event.

The fight, which aired on Netflix as part of a new MMA series under Jake Paul’s MVP banner, ended in just over 15 seconds when Rousey secured a takedown and finished Carano with her trademark armbar. The sequence closely resembled several of Rousey’s fastest finishes during her peak years in the sport.

The result immediately sparked debate online, with some fans suggesting the fight appeared staged due to its short duration and clean execution. However, Baszler pushed back strongly against that narrative on X, pointing directly to Rousey’s established history in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“If you want to know how fast the memory of MMA fans gets erased, 17 seconds isn’t even her fastest win and people think it was worked, lol. What about her :14 win over Zigano? Or her :16 win over Davis? Or her other 5 wins under :30? Or her 9 total wins under a minute?”

Baszler referenced several of Rousey’s most notable UFC finishes, including her 14-second submission victory over Cat Zingano at UFC 184 and her 16-second armbar win over Alexis Davis at UFC 175. Those performances were part of a dominant run where Rousey established herself as one of the most dominant champions in combat sports history, with multiple finishes under one minute.

Rousey’s win over Carano on Saturday followed a similar pattern, ending almost immediately after the fight began. The matchup headlined the event, which also featured appearances from fighters including Junior dos Santos, Nate Diaz, and Francis Ngannou.

The event marked the first in a planned series of MMA showcases streamed globally on Netflix, positioning MVP as a new promotional platform blending mainstream combat sports with entertainment-driven presentation.

Baszler’s comments emphasized that, based on Rousey’s real fighting history, the quick finish was not unusual but rather consistent with her established in-ring patterns from her UFC prime.

Kevin Nash Clarifies TKO Comments, Reveals Wrestler Took Major Pay Cut To Stay

Kevin Nash Clarifies TKO Comments, Reveals Wrestler Took Major Pay Cut To Stay

Kevin Nash has clarified his recent criticism of TKO Group Holdings while also shedding light on the financial realities behind WWE’s post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts.

Speaking on Kliq This, Nash revealed that he personally knows at least one WWE talent who accepted a 50 percent pay cut to remain with the company rather than be released. While he did not name the wrestler, he emphasized that the reduced salary is still substantial.

“I’ve got enough moles in the business where, I mean, I know the people that took 50 percent cuts. I know one of the guys, and when I found out what the person was making, and after I just picked myself up off the ground that he was making that much money, and then realized that even at 50 percent, he was making huge money.”

The comments come in the wake of reports that WWE offered select talent the option to restructure contracts at lower rates instead of being released. Some, including Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, reportedly declined and requested their releases. The identities of those who accepted reduced deals have not been publicly confirmed.

Nash also addressed his earlier viral remarks in which he criticized TKO leadership and told them to stay out of WWE creative, making it clear those comments were not based on direct conversations with Paul Levesque.

“One thing Paul and I have never done is we have never talked business. Like, I could not call or text him and say, ‘Hey, what’s going on? Are they [messing] with you?’ He would never. Because that’s our deal.”

He added that his frustration at the time may not have been entirely rooted in concrete information.

“Maybe I got pissed off last week. Maybe it was just because I did a lot of driving… maybe I thought I was a wrestler again.”

Nash also softened his stance on TKO executives, specifically praising Ari Emanuel, the CEO of TKO, for his professionalism in their personal interactions.

“The only person I’ve ever met from TKO is Ari… I’ve never been treated better by anyone in management than the way he treated me.”

While Nash admitted he does not personally know other executives such as TKO President Mark Shapiro, he acknowledged that his earlier comments may have been more emotional than informed.

The remarks provide additional context to both WWE’s recent roster decisions and the internal dynamics following the company’s integration under TKO.
